Banff and Macduff Community Council

Councillors

Your local community and county councillors represent all the people of the community in order to ensure involvement and oversight when decisions are made that will impact our area. We present your views, ask questions on your behalf, attend committees, and receive updates from local groups and organisations.

Hazel Daniel - Chair

Hi my name is Hazel Daniel and I live in Macduff. I am retired and have lived in Macduff for 12 years with my husband Gerry. I have lots of varied interests and enjoy spending time outdoors, walking, gardening and occasionally wild swimming. I try to play golf, but I use that term loosely, so it is a work in progress. I took over the role of secretary about a year ago and am enjoying the challenge.

John Main - Vice Chair

I’m John and I moved to Banff in 2021 with my wonderful family, which currently includes 3 dogs, 2 parrots, 2 axolotls, and a rabbit! I love to support my local community and enjoy getting involved wherever I can; in addition to my role as a community counsellor I also volunteer with the Deveron Christmas Lights Association, repair the town’s bikes, and organise a regular tabletop gaming group.

At 6’ 5” I may well be the tallest person in Banff, but I am a gentle giant, massive geek, cheese enthusiast and connoisseur of dad jokes!

Kevin Ritchie - Secretary

I’m Kevin Ritchie and I have been employed at Aberdeenshire council for 27 years in waste disposal, lover of music and have been on local radio and over the North east as well as a few discos too. Born and bred in the lovely Banffshire coast.

Louise McCafferty - Treasurer

I have lived in Banff for just over 2 years, moving up from Aberdeen where I was on the local Community Council for a number of years, carrying out a variety of roles, from Secretary to Treasurer to Chair.  Banff & Macduff are great places to live but I want to help make them better and I think this can be partly achieved through the work of the Community Council.  I am currently the Community Council Treasurer which involves looking after the bank account, paying invoices and supporting the Committee with funding applications.

Mary Arnold

My name is Mary Arnold and I volunteer on the Banff & Macduff Community Council.  Our aim is to listen and support the communities of Banff & Macduff to ensure their voices are heard. I also volunteer on a number of other groups in the Banff & Macduff area.

Paul Gleisner

I moved to Macduff in early 2021 having previously lived in Alford, Aberdeenshire. I spent 17 years in the Royal Navy as an aircraft engineer before moving to the Middle East to work in the UAE and have experience in the construction, offshore and healthcare sectors. Currently working for Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership, I feel it is important to have a Community Council so we can have a voice in Aberdeenshire Council decisions that affect our residents in our communities and to represent them the best way we can for the most positive outcome.

Colin Robson

Hi my name's Colin Robson and I am a Community councillor for Banff and Macduff. I have lived in Banff and Macduff for 23 years. Also co-ordinator for Community First Responders Banff and Macduff.

Dougie Thomson
